In honour of International Women's Day...

...I've decided to put together a list of my 5 favourite badass female characters. (Just a heads-up: this list is mostly game-related, and the order I place them in is least favourite to most favourite.)


So here's the list:

5. Nilin Cartier-Wells, Remember Me



I haven't played through the whole game yet, but it's over half-way completed, so I've played enough of it to know that this gal isn't one to be messed with. Even with no memory of her past, she never gives up the fight.

4. Sergeant Calhoun, Wreck-it Ralph



WHAT CAN I SAY. Not only is this woman a TOTAL BADASS, but she also got me into video games with strong female protagonists, such as Metroid and Mass Effect. The fact that I'm playing those series now is her legacy. Also, the fact that she has a more caring side to her personality too is just so sweet.

3. Commander Shepard, Mass Effect



Like with Nilin, I haven't played through the whole Mass Effect series yet. I'm still only on the first one. But from what I've seen so far of this lady, she's smart, tough and definitely not-to-be-messed-with. She's better than her male counterpart, in my opinion.

2. Lucina Lowell, Fire Emblem/Super Smash Bros.



Okay. Technically, putting her on this list is cheating as I haven't played Fire Emblem Awakening yet. But I HAVE played Super Smash Bros. 4, and she's in that, so yeah. She may be a Marth clone in moveset terms, but she's definitely her own character. And her winning lines and taunts are just so sassy.

1. Samus Aran, Metroid/Super Smash Bros.



Let's face it. Anyone who's been watching me since October 2013 probably saw this one coming. But seriously though. THIS WOMAN IS JUST OMG She's almost TOO awesome. And she started me off on loads of other Nintendo series, just from being in Super Smash Bros. So it's all thanks to her that, apart from being in love with the Metroid series, I have an obssession with Zelda, Kid Icarus, Fire Emblem and Nintendo in general as well. And on top of all that? She disguises herself in an armoured suit, so some people don't even know she's female until they play one of her games. AND she was one of the first strong female protagonists in gaming history. She's all that was mentioned above, and more.
Samus Aran, I salute you.
